He is taken to the planet of Gor which is also referred to as Counter-Earth. His whole life changes when one cold winter night in the woods of New England, for whatever reason he is there, he witnesses being transported to another planet, no questions asked. Something he could have never imagined and was completely out of the ordinary for a normal being from Earth. The story starts with the introduction of a character, one of the most important characters in the book for that matter, who thinks of himself as a simple man, a normal citizen of Earth who has no idea that his future holds something so big, bigger than himself, and he would be the center of it. ![]() ![]() Our review will tell you all about how this lengthy series begins. ![]() ![]() However, the brief bits of humor do not outweigh the things I didn't like about the book. This book was occasionally funny, although I am not sure if I was laughing at its awfulness or because it was actually funny. The problem is Debonair is a notorious playboy and a thief who sometimes helps people. Bella just wants to live a normal life and ignore everything related to superheros and ubervillains, which proves difficult, especially when she meets the sometimes hero Debonair. Her mother died when she was little, and her father died fighting an ubervillain a year or so ago. Bella has the gift of luck, but she doesn't feel very lucky. ![]() It seems most of Bella's family and friends are superheros each with their own special ability. Apparently, Bigtime is a stereotypical cartoon city - with superheros and ubervillains. ![]() Bella is a member of one of the very wealthy families in Bigtime (yes, the city's name is Bigtime- if you decide not to read the book based on that alone I don't blame you). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The book was published in Harper’s Junior Books division in 1981, but was marketed towards adults as well. PLOT: June Broaden and Ryan Henderson have been the classic high school nemesis since they can remember. ![]() You can’t understand how happy I felt when I finished the book and realized that I found one more book to add to my favorite books list. Let me start this review by saying how scared I was to open up this book just because I loved The Match so much and I wanted to love this book just as much. «I’ve been waiting seventeen years for this kiss.» ![]() ![]() ![]() She's 17 years old but at times I felt she acted like a 14 or 15 year old. ![]() Amber was fairly good MC, yet she felt younger than she really is. ![]() I actually really liked the book, although at times it really dragged (it's almost 500 pages - for a contemporary, that's too much for me!!). Because that means you've not done anything you cared about.” Also, just like in Am I Normal Yet?, the book discussed feminism, but in my opinion, it was more discussed in Am I Normal Yet? and I honestly love Holly Bourne's take on feminism. It dealt with pretty deep subjects: alcoholism and abandonment. This is Amber's book, and when I read Am I Normal Yet?, I was wondering what her story would be about because we were barely given any clue about Amber's life, except how shaky her family is, so I was curious to delve deeper into that and that's exactly what I got. ![]() Like book 1 (Am I Normal Yet?), How Hard Can Love Be? had the good balance between cute and serious. I think it worked? However, the book was just what I needed at the time. I've been in a slump since last week basically, and I decided to start my only owned contemporary book as an attempt to get out of this slump. ![]() ![]() ![]() She respects her, fears her, and pity's her.
